Study of brushes 4- Filbert

One of my favorite type of brushes is a filbert. A filbert brush is essentially a flat brush and a round brush combined to make a paint brush that is very versitile. Even though filberts get smaller the more you use them, they still do the same thing as if they were new. Filbert's can make a large stroke or a thin stoke depending on which way it faces: Side= thin stroke Flat= wide stroke. These brushes are useful for creating flowers, petals, leaves, and landscapes as well as ceramic and glass paintings. They were also very good for blending and I was taught many techniques using this brush. One technique in particular was starting out flat and then slowly turning the brush onto its side. You can see this technique in the picture to the upper left.
